From the reviews
Having moved here from the midwest. We were delighted when we found ABT. My daughter having been in varies dance classes since the age of three; found herself at home with Sally and the staff at ABT.
ABT has been a wonderful experience for my daughter. She has been taking classes there in ballet and jazz since she was 8 years old, and is now 16. It is not only the top notch instruction, but the friendships that she has made there. Sally and Gary create an atmosphere of cooperation and kindness between the girls.
I cannot begin to express the excellence exuded by this extraordinary, family oriented training facility. The integrated curriculum requires discipline and heart: students train to perfect flawless technique in classes of pre-professional quality and length, but complement that skill based practice with performance…
Albemarle Ballet Theatre is outstanding in every respect. The hard work and extreme dedication of Sally and Gary is exemplified throughout the weekly instruction which culminates in a tremendous annual production featuring all students.
Your first ballet class at Albemarle Ballet Theatre
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
