We have been enrolled in ballet classes for a few years now, from “creative movement” classes for littles to Ballet ll and we have loved our experience here at ABA. The director, Annie, is just wonderful, professional and so kind. My daughter finds the ballet ll classes are disciplined and fun.
I can't recommend this place enough. The instructors are so amazing at tailoring the experience to what the individual needs, in order to foster the confidence to succeed in an ensemble production. The older dancers are passionate and kind, and always appear willing to help the younger ones.
The ABA is a wonderful school to learn classic ballet. The instructors are very knowledgeable, kind and encouraging! The school performs full performances on the Elsinore stage of The Nutcracker in December and a selected ballet in June.
My daughter looks forward to ballet every week and is so excited for the Nutcracker performance. Her teacher Andee is amazing with kids and so great at keeping them engaged and leading a fun class!
Your first ballet class at American Ballet Academy
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
