“The shows they put on are like Broadway productions not like those lame, end of the year recitals at the other schools.”
“They have just added a GORGEOUS second studio space, which has allowed them to offer much more convenient scheduling for their classes and add new classes such as tap and hip hop.”
“The teachers have very high expectations and run a disciplined, serenely organized and focused class, but delivered with warmth and care.”
From the reviews
My pre-teen has been a loyal student at BRB since she was a toddler. The level of instruction, both for classical and contemporary dance, is exceptional. Many BRB students are accepted into competitive summer intensives for their age group (i.e. ABT, Joffrey); as well as performing arts middle and high schools.
We've tried a few dance studios in the neighborhood, but Bay Ridge Ballet is by far our favorite. My kids have been students there for several years now. Ms. Patty is a great talent and teacher and her warmth and energy are infectious. All of the other teachers are highly qualified and professional too.
It is indeed feasible to discover a dance studio that is ideal for your child! We have found one, and I am eager to share our experience with others. We had my daughter's 7th birthday at Bay Ridge Ballet this week and it exceeded our expectations! For a reasonable price, Ms. Patty took care of all decorations and made the space look magical for our daughter, including signage outside. She also took care of ordering and serving pizza. For two hours, Ms.
Your first ballet class at Bay Ridge Ballet
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
