I took my three kids to the Beck Center on Community Night and I can’t even express how grateful I am for the opportunity. Community Night made it possible for us to enjoy a show together ... and the entire experience was absolutely amazing.
So glad to have a really great theater here in Lakewood. Beck Center for the Arts has been a great option for most people to experience live theater without breaking the bank. And some of the productions are on par with many professional shows. Beck Center also has great classes for people of all ages.
I love Beck Center. I teach a few classes here and the faculty and community are so welcoming. My students light up my entire week!!
My daughter has been taking Heather McCormick’s Art Discovery class for over a year now. She loves it! Heathers class is very low stress and she encourages the kids to be themselves and feel comfortable trying new types of hands on art. We love the Beck Center and Miss Heather!
Your first ballet class at Beck Center for the Arts
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
