From the reviews

Great place for kids and adults to take affordable quality classes. They also have very good concerts and shows all year around.

Love this place! I haven't gone to any theatre events here but a friend had a quincera here and it was the perfect space. I now take swing classes here through gotta swing and love it. The same space works for the bday / events and dance. There's a lovely outdoor space with a lovely view.

I love the community atmosphere of BlackRock! Always something going on - from classes to performances by Grammy award winning artists... drag shows... outdoor trick-or-treating... the food distribution HUB... a lot! It's pretty cool that we have something like this in Germantown.

We had our Winter Concert / Recital on December 2025 and the service was excellent. Everyone at Back Rock is so cordial, attentive and caring. They went above and beyond to assist with anything we needed. They are kind and flexible and willing to work with you. We strongly recommend them for your events!

Your first ballet class at BlackRock Center for the Arts

Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Ballet is for every age and every body. If you're returning from an injury or have a health concern, mention it to the teacher before class so they can offer modifications.
