CVPA has 3 studios and 1 boutique. They ONLY teach dance & classes which range from toddlers to seniors. (I think private dance lessons are available, too. Same w/small group.) For some young people, they have "dance camps" (like daycare but w/dance lessons), stretch and conditioning, and tumbling camps and classes.
My daughter takes beginning / intro classes at the center street location. Miss Jessica and Miss Sophia are amazing instructor's. You can tell when someone has a gift in dealing with children. These two have that gift. They interact very well with all of the children they instruct.
My daughter who is now 16yrs old has been attending CVPA since she was 3yrs old and she loves it. Ms.Janet who is the owner of the studio is one the most hardworking and caring people i know. Her students mean everything in the world to her. I'm always proud to say daughter attends CVPA when i talk about her dancing.
First, this review is long overdue. My daughter began her journey with CVPA approximately one year ago. She has been dancing ballet since the age of 3, which she has continued to grow in. Two of the things she has been training in are jazz (3rd year now) and hip hop (2nd year now).
Your first ballet class at Castro Valley Performing Arts Somerset
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
