Finding Melissa and Port City Diva Dance was the highlight of my 2023!! I have been searching Wilmington for a dance studio that’s felt welcoming and builds confidence for about 6 years now and I’ve finally found a home!
Diva Dance Port City is so special! If you are looking for a place to build community, flex your creativity, let loose, have fun, and empower others, feel feminine, look no further! Everyone is so kind and uplifting. The teachers put so much passion and energy into their classes it’s contagious.
LOVE that there is finally an adult dance studio in Wilmington! I am not a classically trained dancer, and while there are options in town to learn technique, this is the only place I've found where you can shake your booty just for fun!
The part of my heart that I had to give up when I stopped dancing competitively has been revived with this community!!! The classes are challenging and fun. I sweat sweat and it’s great. Thanks for bringing this to the port city!!
Your first ballet class at DivaDance® Port City
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
