What a lovely studio! I came here on a Thursday evening and booked through ClassPass. It was a little bit hard to find at first because it is so small you have to go upstairs right above Benefit. Walking into this studio is almost like walking into someone's warm and cozy home, you definitely feel right at home.
I love this studio. All of the faculty are outstanding (special shout out to Susan and Gina), Patty at the front desk is so sweet and welcoming- and it’s an AMAZING workout. Please note- I’ve been doing Barre classes for years and I find these classes crazy hard, so I have no clue what beginners do.
I was searching for the low impact exercise classes with a group for support. I decided to try out the Forme Barre Fitness to see if I liked or not due to my age 73. I tried classes for a week. I found the combination of Yoga, Pilate and Ballet interesting. I really love it, it fits me perfectly.
Truly an amazing barre studio!! There are so many different teachers and they all lead the class in their own unique ways so classes never get boring or repetitive. The perfect type of challenging where I feel the burn and it gets the endorphins going but is also fun. Lots of stretching as well.
Your first ballet class at Forme Barre
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
