From the reviews
My husband grew up watching the Houston Ballet's version of The Nutcracker on TV and has always wanted to see it live. For his birthday, I bought us tickets so he could finally see it live and in person.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to a performance and was absolutely moved. Not only was the choreography perfectly timed to the music, the skill can be seen with every step. Bravo.
I can only speak for their preschool program. My daughter enjoys it. I find it weird that they have different uniforms from joy of motion to creative dance and then the next level. Would be helpful to keep same uniform (at least leotard).
Saw The Nutcracker for the first time! It’s was a amazing performance at The Wortham Center in Houston. A Holiday Tradition for so many. You can rent binoculars and booster seats for kids. The gift area has nutcrackers for purchase along with other items from other performances. The talent they have is incredible.
Your first ballet class at Houston Ballet
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
