From the reviews
Before I write my answer to the negative remarks listed, I want people to know that Darya and Sergiy are absolutely amazing teachers with great attention to detail to all of their students and there performances are nothing short of spectacular and original.
We followed Darya and Sergei from their prior location as teachers when they opened their studio in 2010. They are amazing! They teach Vaganova in true form, and while having high expectations from their students, they are also kind, loving, and full of laughter.
The School of Russian Ballet is one of the few ballet schools in the western part of the state that teaches the Vaganova Method of ballet. The directors Darya Fedotova and Sergiy Mykhaylov were trained in this method and are wonderful teachers. The school imparts the discipline of ballet with a warm family environment.
Classical Vaganova training. My daughter has danced in summers at other Russian ballet programs and has excelled, which demonstrates to us that her 7 years of training here have been excellent. The focus is on ballet technique, this is not a “jack of all trades” or competition school.
Your first ballet class at International Ballet of Florida
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
