I have been doing ballet for over 20 years and I am currently employed as a professional dancer. Despite all the options available in the NYC area, I travel specially to Seacliff to study with Ms. Irina at LI Ballet Academy and Dance and wanted to add my experiences here for anyone looking for quality ballet training.
Irina is a brilliant ballet instructor and artistic director. I have never experienced classes like this anywhere else; the quality is on par with training at renowned ballet companies. It seems to be the best academy for learning precise and proper ballet technique.
Not so easy to see right off of Main Avenue and 14th Avenue in the Sea Cliff area of Glenn Cove New York. Downstairs in what appears to be a house on the corner. Small parking lot. Clean facilities. Public Restroom. Nice big room for training with high ceiling. Highly recommended for the serious Ballet Student.
Excellent training for kids. Irina is professional ballet dancer with Russian training. Very hard to find somebody like her until you try ABT. I would recommend her for the kids who are serious about the ballet and professional training.
Your first ballet class at LI Ballet Academy and Dance, Inc.
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
