Our family has been with Penny Lane Dance Academy for the past six years and we couldn’t be happier! The staff is warm and friendly, the classes are engaging and age-appropriate, and my daughters’ have shown tremendous growth in not only skill, but confidence, since they began.
My daughter has been dancing at Penny Lane for 4 years now, and she has loved every minute of it. Now she is also on one of the competitive teams, and that has been a rewarding experience as well (the focus is more on teamwork and doing their best than win at all costs).
I have three girls and each one has gone to Penny Lane since they were 2 years old. Andi and her staff create a magical experience from day one. Andi is an experienced dancer, business owner and teacher. Her professionalism and attention to detail, especially during Covid was particularly impressive.
Penny Lane Dance Academy in Somers, NY is wonderful! Caring teachers and a great family friendly vibe. The dancers learn a lot while having tons of fun. They also learn a lot about "giving back" to the community which is a big plus in my mind as a mom.
Your first ballet class at Penny Lane Dance Academy
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
