From the reviews
My 11 year old daughter loves Stavna! After trying several other dance studios, we found Stavna a couple years ago. It has a great location and gives dancers not only the opportunity to have a recital each spring, but also gives them the experience of participating in a full length ballet every winter.
Our daughter danced with a few other dance companies in the Richmond area before Stavna opened on Robious Road – so it was clear to see that Stavna Ballet was truly different.
Our daughter has danced with Stavna Ballet for many years, and Stavna provided her with a stellar dance education. The teachers and staff at Stavna became her second family, and were a huge part of her pursuing a career in dance. If you are looking for an afterschool activity, there are lots of dance studios around.
We love Stavna! Every week my four-year-old daughter is so excited for ballet, and she comes out of class with a huge smile on her face. While she is having fun, I appreciate that she is learning crucial skills - coordination, spatial awareness, memory development, and the list goes on. We highly recommend Stavna.
Your first ballet class at Stavna Ballet
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
