Our daughter recently joined the Tutu School after several years of ballet at another more "traditional" studio. The Tutu School has been the perfect fit for us! It's so much more developmentally appropriate with a wonderful mix of playful moves and imagination.
My daughter has been going to Tutu school for more than 2 years (started at age 2). She has participated with varying degrees of enthusiasm. The most difficult transition being from age 2 to 3 when parents are no longer allowed to sit in with the class.
The sweetest ballet school! My 6 month old enrolled in their infant ballet course. The instructor Miss Mirra is incredibly kind and patient with the babies. I joined because I thought it would be a cute to have her wear a tutu, but turns out it’s so MUCH more than dress playtime.
Ms.Mirra’s 6-18 months ballet class is a truly special mommy and me experience! It’s the perfect way to bond while introducing little ones to the joy of movement. The class is beautifully structured—gentle, engaging, and perfectly suited for babies.
Your first ballet class at Tutu School Santa Monica
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
