From the reviews
I have been apart of the Uptown family for over 20 years I started as a preschool dancer and elevated to a member of the Senior Company Dance Team. My experiences were phenomenal. I learned to be confident in who I am.
I have been dancing at Uptown Dance center for 2 years now and I have made so many improvements. Thanks to my teacher Ms.Leta I am now very confident In my new skills. Due to my improvements I’m an assistant teacher who helps out with younger kids.
Recently, I reached out to Ms. Leta Tavares, owner of Uptown Dance Center to speak with her about my 7 yr. old very talented granddaughter Virginia Rose. 33 years ago Leta personally taught my daughter Virginia Tap and Jazz dance. Leta is one of the most talented and loving dance coaches that exist.
I can’t speak highly enough of Uptown. I started dancing there at the age of 3, which launched a life long passion and career. From Uptown, I attended a performing arts high school, majored in dance in college, and danced professionally. Leta trained me with love. I met my best friends at Uptown.
Your first ballet class at Uptown Dance Center
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
