The programs they offer
“I myself took an adult ballet/lyrical class this summer and also had a wonderful experience - not as a dance parent but a student!”
“I was worried when they added the audition-based Company that my daughter might be marginalized because we haven't been able to do Company for various reasons.”
“Our youngest daughter has danced there for 8 years, since she was 3 years old, and our oldest daughter danced in the teen classes for a few years as well.”
“They have a solid foundation of Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Pointe variations and learned from teachers with a huge heart, who set the standards high and nurtured every student.”

From the reviews
My teenage daughter decided to give ballet a try this summer and we've had a lovely experience at VDC. My first hurdle was to find a studio that offered beginner classes for older kids - not just littles. VDC offered an evening introductory six week summer session which was just what we were looking for.
Both of our daughters danced at VDC from 2nd grade until they graduated. VDC was a great match for them. They did not want to be in a competitive environment or on a dance team and my younger daughter did participate with the Dance Company (marched in parade and went to Senior Centers/community events) and was a lead…
We love Virginia Dance Center! I have been a student since they first opened when I was 8 years old and danced here until I went to college. I have since then come back for adult classes and love them! My daughter is now a dancer there for her third year and it fills my heart that she is learning the love of dance.
Virginia Dance Center is a phenomenal dance studio! Our family has been taking dance classes at VDC for several years. The instructors’ passion for dance provides an inspiration to my children. Throughout the years, I have seen such growth in my children’s dance skills!
Adult ballet at Virginia Dance Center
Virginia Dance Center runs classes for grown-ups — confirmed on their own site. If you've never taken ballet, or you're coming back to it after years away, this is for you — and a good studio genuinely welcomes a nervous first-timer. A few things worth asking before you go. First, which class to start in — look for one labeled "absolute beginner" or "adult beginner" rather than an open or "all levels" class, so you learn the fundamentals at the right pace. Second, drop-in or term — many adult programs let you pay per class to try it, then move to a term or monthly package once you're hooked. Third, what to wear — comfortable clothes you can move in, plus socks or bare feet, are plenty for a first class; you won't need a leotard or ballet shoes to walk in the door. It's never too late for first position.
Your first ballet class at Virginia Dance Center
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
