From the reviews
This was our first semester with WSD and we were so impressed with the weekly dance instruction, the professionalism of the staff, the organization of classes and the recital, and the communication provided via teacher and through the mail.
We did have a few hiccups with registering for classes and the photos I ordered for my daughter were incorrect, but mistakes happen, and the teachers are absolutely phenomenal! My daughter loves ballet, and has so much fun coming here. So far, we had teachers Heather and Meagan. Both are very energetic and talented!
UPDATE: Still with the dance company, as my daughter is going into her 5th year here. We still love this place! She takes ballet and tap. The instructors are wonderful, and I really appreciate the inclusive culture - ANYONE can dance! My daughter has been here 3 years and loves it.
Amanda and her dancer staff are amazing! Our 4 year old loves the weekly 45 minute ballet movement dance class. There are usually about 6-9 children. She provides fun music, kids music, classical music and fun routines and props. Absolutely adorable to watch and delightfully entertaining for the kids.
Your first ballet class at Washington School of Dance
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
