From the reviews
An absolute gem in the community! Fantastic dance program with a wide variety of dance classes (tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet, contemporary, etc.) for all ages including kids, teens, and adults. The theater program has super talented actors and the galleries have the best view of the river in downtown.
Our family was thrilled to have discovered the Phipps upon moving to the area. What an amazing community asset! We’ve had the best experience in the dance program.
What a beautiful facility. Right across from the riverfront, so come early and take a stroll before the show. There is a small art gallery, currently featuring several lovely sculptures. The volunteer staff is friendly and professional. The theatre itself is nicely appointed, not a bad seat in the house.
Went for a concert. The organ is really unique and totally unexpected for a smaller place like this. Great view of the river, boats, and park. I detest metered parking, even if it is free on certain times and/or days because then we have to look for the fine print to ensure that we don’t get ticketed.
Your first ballet class at Phipps Center For the Arts
Nervous about walking into your first class? Almost everyone is — and a good studio expects beginners, whether your dancer is five or you're returning at fifty. Here's what to know. What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, with socks or bare feet; a leotard and tights are nice if you have them, but not required, and pointe shoes are years down the road — never day one. What to expect: class usually starts at the barre with slow, simple movements to warm up, then moves to the center — follow along, copy the teacher, and don't worry about getting it "right" the first time. Arrive early: come 10–15 minutes ahead to change, find a spot, and let the teacher know it's a first class so they can keep an eye out. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
